Piper has been manufacturing and distributing general aviation aircraft and spare parts throughout the United States and abroad since 1937. Approximately 50,000 to 60,000 Piper aircraft still are operational in the United States. In 1995, Piper declared bankruptcy and has subsequently been reorganized as New Piper Aircraft Co. They are still producing the same airplane line, with minor modification.
